Created in 2007, the Ottawa Museum Network (OMN) is a not-for-profit professional network supporting and helping to sustain Ottawa’s community and city museums.
Our Mission
The Ottawa Museum Network operates as a strong voice for Ottawa’s community museums and assists members with advocacy, marketing, professional development, revenue generation, and resource sharing.
Our Vision
We envision a strong, sustainable, and professional network of museums that engages Ottawa’s communities and honours their stories, now and into the future.
Our Strategic Areas of Focus
Marketing and Communications: To promote our member museums to residents and visitors, helping to increase awareness and engagement, boost attendance, and expand reach to new audiences
Advocacy: To advocate for and champion the public value of Ottawa’s community museums to decision-makers, residents, community groups, and the cultural sector, making them more sustainable for the future
Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility: To make inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility central in our culture, work, decision-making, and partnerships
Capacity Building: To increase the skills and knowledge needed for the future sustainability of member museums through professional development, partnerships, and resource-sharing
Governance and Administration: To ensure organizational success through good governance and continuous improvement of operations
Annual Report
Funding
The OMN has a multi-year operating funding agreement with the City of Ottawa under its cultural funding program which supports local not-for-profit cultural organizations, professional artists, and heritage workers.
We also receive some funding from the Province of Ontario’s Heritage Organization Development Grant—an annual operating grant designed to promote public awareness of Ontario’s rich and diverse heritage.
Annually, we also apply and receive time-limited grants for a wide variety of special projects that support our network of museums.
