Confederation: Have your say!

Hosted by: Bytown Museum

Explore everyday life in Victorian Canada. Learn about the major figures in the debates surrounding Confederation and the unification of the distinct colonies of British North America. The tour group will then take their seats in the legislature debate and discuss whether they are for or against Confederation.

Virtual – Using our online document, teachers can help students learn about the events and important figures that framed the debate over Confederation and helped create the Dominion of Canada. Students will use what they’ve learned in class, as well as historical examples from Ottawa’s history to formulate arguments for and against Confederation, identify which historical figures were at the heart of this debate, and what the process to create Canada looked like.

This program is available in English & French in-person and English only for virtual.
