Beyond Bytown Lecture: “History of Waste (Mis)management in Old Ottawa”

March 30 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us for an evening with James Powell, the Director of the Historical Society of Ottawa, and our speaker for the Bytown Museum’s upcoming Beyond Bytown lecture, “History of Waste (Mis)management in Old Ottawa”.

Author of the local history blog, Today in Ottawa’s History, James Powell will be discussing with us the history of waste management in Ottawa. Urban canters were unpleasant places in the 19th century, and Ottawa was no exception. Industrial and household wastes poured into the Ottawa River and its tributaries, destroying once pristine waterways. On land, garbage was left to rot in backyard middens or even in the streets. Disease was rampant among the growing city population.

Please join us on March 30th at 7:00pm, to learn via Zoom about how Ottawa historically dealt with its waste, and the city’s long struggle for a cleaner, healthier environment.https://www.eventbrite.ca/…/beyond-bytown-history-of…
