The William G. Pomeroy Foundation presents Canal Conversations: Virtual Roundtables, the Erie Canal Museum’s newest series, featuring canal experts from around the world discussing the interrelation between the canals across space and time. All Canal Conversations will be virtual via Zoom. You will receive an email from the Erie Canal Museum via no-reply@zoom.us the week of the talk providing you with a personal link to this secure event at least one hour prior to the event beginning. All registrants to the program will receive a recording of the talk following its completion.
The Erie Canal and the rest of the New York State Canal System have for nearly 200 years been part of a larger borderland network of canals connecting to the Great Lakes. This roundtable, featuring Grant Vogl of the Bytown Museum, Derrick Pratt of the Erie Canal Museum, and Adrien Petry of the St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre, will examine their respective canals, the Rideau, Erie/Oswego, and Welland, looking at their similarities and differences while having an engaging exchange on North American canals.
Support for Canal Conversations comes from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation and their Historic Transportation Canals Marker Grant Program. For more information on the grant program and to learn how to apply visit: https://www.wgpfoundation.org/history/historic-canals/
