• Grade 2 – Science and Technology “Earth and Space Systems”: demonstrate an understanding of the ways in which air and water affect living things and are essential to their survival.
• Grade 2 – Social Studies “Family and Community Traditions”: comparing traditions from generation to generation in one’s family. “Global Communities”: drawing conclusions about the interdependent relationship between the physical environment in which certain communities live and the way of life of their inhabitants.
• Grade 3 – Science and Technology “Life Systems”: demonstrate an understanding that plants grow and change and have distinct characteristics. “Land and Space System”: assess the importance of soils to living beings, including humans, and the impact of human activity on soils.
• Grade 3 – Social Studies “Canada’s Communities in the Early 1800s”: describe how Canada’s communities in the early 1800s shaped key elements of Canadian identity today. “Community and Environment”: describe the relationship between the characteristics of the natural environment of an area and the type of land use and types of communities that have settled there.
• Grade 4 – Science and Technology “Life Systems”: explore the interdependence of plants, animals and their habitats and identify factors that affect habitats and communities.
• Grade 4 – Social Studies “Community and Environment”: draft questions that will focus on issues of responsible management of natural resources in one or two political or physical regions of Canada while balancing the needs of the population, the economy and the environment.
